Easter Weekend!!

We will be open our regular hours on Good Friday, April 2nd and Saturday, April 3rd. Same hours.

Hot Cross Buns!!

We will be making them Friday and Saturday only this week and then they are gone with the bunny ’till next Year. ;-(

Challah!!

If you have never had Spelt Challah, come and try it. It’s amazing, perfect with butter. Also makes the best french toast in the world!!

Ingredients: Organic spelt flour, organic cane sugar, free range eggs, yeast & sea salt. $8.00 each

Pie of the Week!

Saturday: Strawberry-Rhubarb and Cherry pies. Be sure to order in advance for your Easter dinner.

Bread Of The Week!

WHAT’S NEW?

  • The bread of the week, on Saturday: Our “Spelt Raisin-Cinnamon & Spuds Bread” One flat price: $6.25 each (Usually $7.25)
  • Cherry pies!!! $12 each, Reserve now!
  • We make fresh SPELT BAGELS, on Saturdays. Please order in advance!!
  • We also have parking at the back of the bakery with a back entrance!!
  • Please check our hours of operation to come and visit us.

FYI: Our Baking Schedule

Because we are a destination bakery:

Wednesdays, Thursdays and early Fridays, most of the breads we bake are pre-sold, by being reserved by you, our customers and for wholesale customers. If you do not pre-order in advance, the best day to come and see what we have is Saturdays, as it is the only “walk-in” retail day where you can see all of our products on display. Otherwise, please place your order by email through our website and we will have it ready for you to pick up on the day allocated for you. Please check our website for more product information. Looking forward to hearing from you!!!

  • Don’t forget, Wednesdays all frozen breads are 25% off!!! Come and stock up!!

FAQ:

If you have severe wheat allergy, these are the ingredients you might find conventional wheat in:

  • Food starch or starch.
  • Bread or leavening sour.
  • Vital gluten.
  • Wild yeast.
  • Natural cultures.
  • Levain.

****Be sure to ask your merchant or the company that produces the products you are buying, if those ingredients contain wheat, as they often do, even if it is advertised as a “wheat free” bread or product. It is a requirement for any merchant selling food products to provide all ingredients to their customers upon request and if they give you excuses like we cannot divulge our “Secret ingredients” it is not a legal thing to do.

Just for your information:

Our sour is made with 100% certified organic spelt flour and was started by Janet 20 years ago!

We are also very adamant to be certain to get ingredients that do not contain any wheat in our bakery. Even though some of our flour may come from a mill that also produces wheat, we make sure that the cross contamination is minimum, by communicating with our suppliers about it. We always have available for you, contact information of all of our suppliers. Our spelt flour is certified Organic & Canadian.

Janet & I also suffer from wheat allergy and many other allergies. We always recommend to our customers to seek the help or advice of health professionals to be properly diagnosed about your allergies. We are not qualified to tell you if spelt is OK for you or not. Please view “What is spelt” on our website to educate yourself about the wonder grain that is spelt!!

Hot-Cross Buns Are Back!!

March 8th, 2010

Dear Spelties,

We finally have our city back. We are very proud to have won 14 gold medals, even though the Olympics were not beneficial for business. Now we are back on track!

WHAT’S NEW?

Janet is now a proud Grand-Mother!!!

Lilja was born Sunday February 21st in Portland, Oregon. Because business was so slow during the Olympics, we were able to be there for the birth. Janet’s son Erik & his wife Britta are doing well after a 62 hour labour, they are all very healthy, including our baby Lilja.

Croissants Are Back!!

We want you to absolutely try them and for that we will be selling them by the unit just for you, this week only!

Usually we sell 3 croissants for $10.00 a box, for this weekend, 3 bucks a piece! 100% organic spelt flour and pure butter!

This Saturday we will be having our traditional Spelt Hot-Cross Buns! We will be making them until Easter!

The Olympics

What’s new?!

THE OLYMPICS!

Yes, so much to say about it, however this is about you right now. Because so many streets will be closed and many of you will not be able to come and get your breads at the bakery, so we are offering for you Spelties:

-Free delivery/shipping to your door between Thursday February 11 to Thursday February 25, 2010. The minimum order is an approximately 25 lb box, 12 to 15 loaves of breads. Of course you can order more, however we will not be shipping our 10 kg bag of flour.
Call ahead to reserve, we will be swamped with orders and will be shipping Thursdays & Fridays, we will let you know which day will be allocated to you depending on our work load.

PARKING!

-You will not be able to park on Hastings during the games, February 1st to March 4th. We have free Parking at the back of the bakery, just for you!

-We have a new bike rack right in front of the bakery! Finally!! ;-)

ORDERS!

If you are not planning on coming into the city of Vancouver during the Olympics and want to stock up, please place your order by email now for pick up before Saturday January 30th inclusive. Check our website for more product information.

Dear Spelties,

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! We wish you the best year of all. Lots of fun, love, prosperity and very good health!

We are very happy to be back and full of energy for this wonderful year 2010. We have dramatically increased our sales with “Spelt”being more and more popular than ever. We recommend that you pre-order your bread in advance so you can have what you need.

We are getting our new “ON LINE” store by the end of January, so you can order & pay online and pick up on your assigned day. There will be more flexibility, as your order will be ready in advance.

Please note our new hours of operation for winter & spring 2010:

Sunday – Monday – Tuesday – Closed.
Wednesday – Thursday – Friday – 11 am to 4 pm.
Saturday – 10 am to 4 pm.

*Saturday is the best day for you walk-in retail customers. We have the biggest varieties of breads and baked goods with samples and lots of time to chat with you.

Most of the week, the bread made is already sold in advance, if you placed your order. You can still come and get breads, calling ahead is recommended so we can set the bread aside for you.

Do you need us to ship to you?
We can do it with a courier company, the cost depends on the size and the weight of the box. Email us with your order and where you live and we will email you the cost of your shipping within 48 hours.

Fresh Pretzels?

Yes ,Jason our “pretzel man” is making them every Saturday. They are absolutely to die for. Soft & salted with Kosher salt! What a treat
with a nice smoky mustard or a spicy cheese sauce! ;-) Hmmmmm, Don’t forget the beer!!

- Do you need a gluten free cake or baked goods for your special events?

Jenny from Sweet Tooth Cakery is an amazing artist! She is working from our bakery. She decorated our wedding cake!

11th Anniversary & Christine’s Birthday!

November 14th, 2009

Dear Spelties,

The winter goodies are coming out and this week we will make shortbread to celebrate Janet’s Grandma who passed away on October 15th this year, exactly three months before her 100th birthday. She was the last of her generation and for those of you who were at the 10th celebration of The Spelt Bakery last year, she was there.

This year we will be celebrating our 11th Anniversary on Saturday,December 5th. We will be having a party from 3 to 5 pm with all sorts of yummy goodies and tasty drinks. It is also Christine’s Birthday that day. We hope you will join us in our festivities and bring a friend. We will be sending you more details on our 11th Anniversary celebration next week.

We are constantly working on new recipes and you can now get our latest, Banana Coffee Cake, by the slice. It’s made with a beautiful organic coffee and organic bananas. We brought some home and everyone said they couldn’t keep their hands off it.

Soon, we will have our fruitcakes back. Order in advance as you never know if they will run out as there is a limited amount available. We will have Date Walnut or Apricot Brandy. Come by and sample them with a good cup of organic coffee from Café Etico on Customer Appreciation Day, Saturday, November 21st. They will be on special that day for $10.00, regular price is $13.00 for a one pound spelt fruitcake. Get them while you can as it will be the only day this year they go on sale.

This Saturday October 17, it’s our “Client’s Appreciation day” at the bakery. Come and sample our new cookies, SPELTMEAL-RAISIN & COCONUT COOKIE, made out of organic extra-virgin coconut oil. It’s GOOD!!
